The Honey Island Swamp is well known around the
world for both beauty and the legends within. The Honey Island Swamp is one of
the least altered river swamps in the country and is also a premier cypress tupelo gum swamp.
Here in the Honey Island Swamp we also have the White Kitchen Nature Conservancy Area which
is Louisiana's first Nature Preserve
. There are also rumors of a man-like creature inhabiting the
Swamp which resembles a sasquatch.
The Honey Island Swamp is also home to an "active" Bald Eagle's nest, the American
Alligator, the Louisiana Black Bear, deer, herons, owls, egrets, racoons, turtles and many more species of
reptiles and mammals.
